“So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter

‘Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?’” (Jn 21:15-17)

After Christ’s resurrection He appeared to His disciples not only to confirm His resurrection to them, but also to assure them of His forgiveness for betraying Him. During one of these apparitions Jesus asked Peter a question. Jesus’ question comes just a few days after he denied Him three times at the courtyard of the high priest. Jesus asks “do you love Me?” St Peter answered “You know that I love You.”

Fr Anthony St Shenouda offers a deep contemplation into Christ’s charge to Peter; Do you love Me?
