doctrinal_statementThe bible teaches us to always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you (1 Pet 3: 15). It is important that we give good consise answers to the people that question us, while maintaining persuasive doctrinal statements.

Attached is part 2 of several doctrinal questions that you could be asked by people that question us. Before you read my answers, have a look at the question and think about what your answer would be. Some questions may not have a straight forward answer, and are more open, so please feel free to share any of your answers or disagreements with mine below.

Question 1

Why should I continue as a Christian? I suppose all religions call for pure thoughts and love? This would lead to a happy eternity, doesn’t?

God loves you and created you. He died on the cross and resurrected from the dead to give you life. Christ taught people how to be pure and love. Christ himself says that He is love.

“Greater love has no-one than this than to lay down his life for his friends”

Christ said that He is the way, the truth and life. He also said that He is the Lord. And besides Me there is no savior. This means that if you do not go through Him, you will not have eternal life and definitely will not be happy. (Ch. 6)

Matthew 6 is a fantastic example of Christian life showing pure thoughts and love. No other religion can compare to this deep level of purity and love. For example: “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake….

Are Christians worshippers of 3 gods?

No, Christians worship one God. God consists of three hypostases (persons) who are united into one. For example the Sun provides light, heat and fire, yet it is still one.

When God created man, he said let Us make man in our image. This Us means that God is made up of more than one person, but not more than one God.

There are plenty more biblical examples which show that the Christian God is not three Gods, but three persons in one God. (Ch. 2)

What did God do when He knew that man would commit sin?

God knew in advance that man would sin when he was created. God’s plan of salvation was eternal through Jesus Christ. God saved us and called us, and gave us grace in Christ before time began. (Ch. 3)

I think the question is misleading. It suggests that God was unprepared for man to commit sin and that He had to react to the situation by doing (correcting) something. God had prepared an eternal plan before time was even created.

How did Jesus Christ the man allow himself to be elevated and promoted to a God?

This question is misleading. We believe that Jesus Christ has always been God. There has never been a time when He was not God, and then suddenly He promoted to be a God.

God made Himself a servant, humbling himself and having no reputation. God lowered Himself to become a man like us, without sin, but He was always God. (Ch. 7)

You can’t have a simple man being worshipped by the Magi when he was born. Having a atypical star guiding the Magi to your birth, curing diseases, raising the dead, walking on water and then suddenly elevate to be a God. He was a God from the beginning and did not elevate/promote.

The religion I am contemplating to embrace agrees with Christianity in many aspects, except that they do not agree that Christ is God? Nor that He was crucified Nor that He died Nor that He was resurrected? Are these differences of any importance?

Yes these differences are of extreme importance. If Christ is not God, then who are you worshipping and believing? Christ claimed to be God. If you do not believe that Christ is God, then you are not a believer in Christianity.

If Christ was not crucified or resurrected, then Christ did not die for our sins and did not resurrect us to live a life with Him, thus Christianity is futile and pointless. Believing in Christ would be like believing a liar or a lunatic.

“Therefore Jesus might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate”

“If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile, you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.” (1 Cor 15: 17) [Ch. 10]

I am in love with a person of this religion; I do-not think I will be able to live without this person! Is it correct for me to marry this person and that each of us remain believing in his own religion?

Well it is incorrect to marry a person and have separate religious beliefs. The biblical concept of marriage is that the two persons become one flesh. Christ said that the church is one body, and if two people are from different faiths how can they be united?

Did you marry in two religions? Marriage is a holy sacrament where the Holy Spirit unites two people into one flesh. It is not something taken lightly so that two people can remain separate and have separate theological beliefs.

“For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Saviour of the body” (Eph 5:23 – Ch. 13).

Not only is it incorrect theologically, it is illogical practically.

Question 2

TV informed me the following facts, as prophesied by Ed Casy and Nostrodamos the prophets. (1) The earth will be renewed in 2001 (2) Many people will perish, except for lovers of the environment and Earth. May I suggest that the Theological college establish a course to teach us how we should care about our earth now and in the future?

Your answer shall be precise and will not exceed 2 pages of the magazine size.

1)      The earth will not be renewed in 2001. It is 2013 now and the earth has not been renewed. Eventually we believe that the Earth will be destroyed. The Earth passing away will come with Christ’s return, and the righteous and wicked have very different ends as seen below:

–          Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. (Rev 21: 1)

–          And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who dies the will of god abides forever. (1 John 2:15)

–          But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (2 Pet 3:10-13)

–          Whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake[h] not only the earth, but also heaven.” 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. (Heb 12:26-27)

–          Fear and the pit and the snare Are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth.18 And it shall be That he who flees from the noise of the fear Shall fall into the pit, And he who comes up from the midst of the pit Shall be caught in the snare; For the windows from on high are open, And the foundations of the earth are shaken.19 The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly.20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again.21 It shall come to pass in that day That the Lord will punish on high the host of exalted ones, And on the earth the kings of the earth.22 They will be gathered together, As prisoners are gathered in the pit, And will be shut up in the prison; After many days they will be punished.23 Then the moon will be disgraced And the sun ashamed; For the Lord of hosts will reign On Mount Zion and in Jerusalem And before His elders, gloriously. (Isa 24: 17-23)

–          Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.26 They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed.27 But You are the same, And Your years will have no end.28 The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You. (Ps 102: 25-28)

–          “I will utterly consume everything From the face of the land,” Says the Lord;“I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, The fish of the sea, And the stumbling blocks[a] along with the wicked. I will cut off man from the face of the land,” Says the Lord. (Zeph 1:2-3)

–          The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, And dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither, And the flower of Lebanon wilts. The mountains quake before Him, The hills melt, And the earth heaves[b] at His presence, Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are thrown down by Him.The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.But with an overflowing flood He will make an utter end of its place, And darkness will pursue His enemies. (Nahum 1:3-8)

–          For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. (Rom 8:19-22).

2)      The wicked will not be acquitted, but the righteous will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God in a new heaven and new earth.

The lovers of the environment and the earth will not escape punishment unless they love God and act accordingly. The people who follow God will not perish.

The theological college should not establish a course about how to care about our earth now and in the future for the aforementioned biblical verses. The earth will eventually perish. There is nothing in our human power that we can do to preserve the earth when Christ returns. Trying to protect the Earth for the future is like trying to build an aeroplane without machines or building the pyramids today…it is a losing battle.

The theological college is much better off spending its time on teaching courses that teach man to realise how much God loves us, so that they will be saved and not perish.
